1. Tóm tắt lý thuyết về thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (Present Continuous Tense)
1.1. Cách sử dụng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn
- Diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra tại thời điểm nói.
Ví dụ: I am watching TV now. (Tôi đang xem tivi bây giờ.)
- Diễn tả một hành động nói chung đang diễn ra và chưa kết thúc, nhưng không nhất thiết phải thực sự diễn ra ngay lúc nói.
Ví dụ: Anna is finding a job. (Anna đang tìm kiếm một công việc.)
- Diễn tả một hành động chắc chắn sẽ xảy ra trong tương lai gần.
Ví Dụ: He is going to Ha Noi tomorrow. (Anh ấy sẽ tới Hà Nội vào ngày mai.)
- Diễn tả một hành động thường xuyên lặp đi lặp lại, thường được sử dụng với mục đích phàn nàn về hành động khiến người nói khó chịu và bực mình.
Ví Dụ: She is always turning music up too loud. (Cô ấy lúc nào cũng bật nhạc quá to.)
- Diễn tả một sự việc đang thay đổi, phát triển nhanh chóng.
Ví Dụ: Your English is significantly improving. (Tiếng Anh của bạn đang được cải thiện đáng kinh ngạc)
1.2. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại tiếp diễn
Một số dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại tiếp diễn phổ biến như sau:
Trạng từ chỉ thời gian:
- Now: Bây giờ
- Right now: Ngay bây giờ
- At the moment: Lúc này
- At present: Hiện tại
- At + giờ cụ thể: Lúc … giờ
Một số động từ:
- Look! : Nhìn kìa!
- Listen! : Hãy nghe này!)
- Keep silent! : Hãy im lặng!
- Watch out! : Hãy coi chừng

2. Những lưu ý khi làm bài tập thì hiện tại tiếp diễn
Khi hoàn thành bài tập thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, chúng ta cần lưu ý 3 lỗi cơ bản sau:
2.1. Lỗi quên tobe/ V_ing
Nếu đã học qua ngữ pháp tiếng Anh về thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, chắc chắn các bạn đều biết trong câu bắt buộc phải có “tobe + V_ing”. Tuy nhiên lý thuyết đôi khi không đi đôi với thực hành. Trong quá trình vận dụng làm bài tập thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, chúng ta vẫn thường quên động từ tobe hoặc quên đuôi _ing sau động từ. Đây là lỗi thường xuyên gặp nhất trong bài, không chỉ riêng với bài tập thì hiện tại tiếp diễn mà với các thì tiếp diễn nói chung. Các bạn nên chú ý!
2.2. Nhầm lần thì hiện tại tiếp diễn và thì hiện tại đơn
Một trong những cách dùng của thì hiện tại tiếp diễn đó là diễn tả hành động lạ bất thường trong khi bạn đang quen làm một việc gì đó.
Ví dụ:
- I always play tennis in the morning, but today I’m playing volleyball instead.
(Tôi luôn chơi tennis mỗi sáng nhưng hôm nay tôi chơi bóng chuyền.)
→ Tức là bình thường mình vẫn chơi tennis, hôm nay mình đổi thành chơi bóng chuyền
- I have Maths on Tuesdays, but I’m having Science on Tuesday this week..
(Tôi học toán vào các thứ ba nhưng thứ ba tuần này tôi học môn khoa học)
→ Bình thường vào thứ 3 học toán nhưng riêng thứ 3 tuần này học khoa học
2.3. Nhầm lẫn thì hiện tại tiếp diễn với thì tương lai đơn
Cách dùng khác nữa của thì hiện tại tiếp diễn là diễn tả hành động sẽ xảy ra trong tương lai nhưng có kế hoạch và dự tính sẵn. Trong khi đó thì tương lai đơn được dùng diễn tả hành động trong tương lai nhưng không có chủ ý sẵn.
Ví dụ:
- I’m going to the zoo with my cousins on Thursday.
(Tôi sẽ đi sở thú với anh em họ vào thứ 5) => đã có dự tính sẵn
- Oh! Someone is knocking the door, I’ll open it.
(Oh! Có ai đang gõ cửa. Tôi sẽ mở nó) => việc mở cửa hoàn toàn không được dự tính sẵn từ trước
