Lý thuyết
1. Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ bằng cách dùng hiện tại phân từ V_ing (Present participle phrases)
Động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ ở thể chủ động (active), ta sẽ thay cụm hiện tại phân từ (V_ing) cho mệnh đề đó.
*Bỏ đại từ quan hệ và động từ “to be”:
E.g.: The girl who wore glasses is my sister.
→ The girl wearing glasses is my sister.
→ Bỏ đại từ quan hệ who, đưa động từ chính “wear” về nguyên mẫu và thêm đuôi “-ing”:
2. Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ bằng cách dùng quá khứ phân từ V3/ed (Past participle phrases)
Động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ là thể bị động (passive) ta dùng quá khứ phân từ (past participle phrase).Bỏ đại từ quan hệ (relative pronouns), “to be”, nhưng vẫn giữ quá khứ phân từ
E.g.: The book which was published by New York magazine is the best-seller of this week.
= The book published by New York magazine is the best-seller of this week.
→ Để rút gọn câu này, ta bỏ mệnh đề quan hệ “which”, đồng thời động từ chính “publish” chuyển thành “published”.
3.Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ bằng “to infinitive”
* Khi danh từ đứng trước với các từ sau: the only, the first, the third,…, the last, cấu trúc so sánh nhất.
E.g.: He was the last student who left the classroom.
= He was the last student to leave the classroom.
* Động từ là have/ had
E.g.: I had some chores that I need to do.
→ I had some chores to do.
* Đầu câu có Here (be), There (be):
E.g.: Here is the form that you must fill in.
→ Here is the form for you to fill in.
4. Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ bằng việc sử dụng cụm danh từ
Với những mệnh đề quan hệ không xác định, ta có thể được rút gọn bằng cách dùng cụm danh từ có dạng:
Relative Pronoun + be + danh từ/ cụm danh từ/ cụm giới từ
Bỏ đại từ quan hệ như who ,which và cả tobe.
E.g.: Taylor Swift, who is a popular singer, has just split up with her boyfriend.
→ Taylor Swift, a popular singer, has just split up with her boyfriend.
5. Các bước rút gọn
Bước 1: Tìm mệnh đề tính từ nằm ở đâu, thường bắt đầu bằng who, which, that,…
Bước 2: Giảm từ mệnh đề xuống cụm từ.
1. Xem mệnh đề có công thức của cụm danh từ không? Nếu có áp dụng công thức ở mục 4.
2. Nếu không có công thức ta xét đến các dấu hiệu như the first, only,…, nếu có thì áp dụng công thức ở mục 3. Ngoài ra, cần phải xét thêm vấn đề hai chủ từ có khác nhau không nếu có dùng for sb.
3. Nếu không có 2 trường hợp trên mới xét xem câu đó chủ động hay bị động mà dùng V-ing hay V-ed.
