Giới từ là gì?
Giới từ là từ loại dùng để chỉ thời gian, vị trí… chỉ sự liên quan giữa các từ khác trong cụm, trong câu văn.
Giới từ được sử dụng với vai trò gắn kết các thành phần trong câu với nhau để câu văn được đầy đủ ý nghĩa
Giới từ được sử dụng trong câu với quy định riêng theo từng loại được chia dưới đây, bạn cần học và ghi nhớ để áp dụng đúng.
Ví dụ:
I live in Ho Chi Minh City. Tôi sống tại thành phố Hồ Chí Minh
Ở câu trên ta chỉ có thể dùng “in” đi với “Ho Chi Minh city” để chỉ nơi chốn bạn sống. Nếu không dùng in thì câu trên sẽ không còn nghĩa trọn vẹn nữa.
Các loại giới từ thông dụng
Giới từ chỉ thời gian
IN (trong, vào ngày/ vào dịp)
- Chỉ thập niên,
- Thế kỷ
- Khoảng thời gian ở tương lai
- Các buổi trong ngày
- Tháng, năm
- Các mùa.
Ví dụ
- in the 20st century
- in four hours
- in the afternoon
- in September
- in 2001
- in the summer
AT (vào lúc)
- Giờ trong ngày
- Các thời điểm cố định
- Các kỳ nghỉ.
Ví dụ:
- at 12 o’clock,
- at night, at bedtime, at dawn
- at the moment, at present, at first, at the same time, at that time.
- at Christmas
ON (vào)
- Cụ thể ngày trong tuần,
- Ngày tháng trong năm,
- Ngày trong kỳ nghỉ
- Các buổi trong ngày.
Ví dụ:
- on Monday
- on 13th January
- on Christmas Day
- on Tuesday morning
- on my birthday
- On time: đúng giờ
Giới từ chỉ nơi chốn
AT (tại) được dùng chỉ vị trí tại một điểm.
Ví dụ:
- at the airport, at the shop
- at the front/back, at the beginning/end
- at school, at home
IN (trong, ở trong)
- Vị trí trong một diện tích,
- Một không gian;
- Dùng trước tên đường, tên thị trấn, thành phố, quốc gia miền, phương hướng
- Dùng với các phương tiện đi lại bằng xe hơi (car).
Ví dụ:
- in a hall
- in the countryside
- in the universe
- in Vietnam
- in Hanoi
- in a bus
ON (trên, ở trên)
- vị trí trên bề mặt
- số tầng trong một tòa nhà hoặc
- dùng với một số phương tiện đi lại.
Ví dụ:
- on the board
- on the ground, on the second floor
- on foot
Giới từ chỉ sự chuyển động
To (đến)
He goes to school.
From … To (từ … đến)
How far is it from your house to your school?
Through (xuyên qua)
We walked through the forest.
Across (ngang qua)
The children ran straight across in front of that car.
Round/ Around (xung quanh)
The cat walks around the circle over there.
Along (dọc theo)
They walked along the river bank.
Up (lên)/ Down (xuống)
The price of petroleum went up quickly
Toward (Towards) (về phía)
People have different opinions towards Tommy’s behaviors.
Giới từ chỉ mục đích
For, to, in order to, so as to (để)
I need to wake up early in order to go to work on time.
Giới từ chỉ nguyên nhân
For, because of, owing to (tại vì)
Because of the heavy rain, I have to wear the
Giới từ chỉ phương tiện
By, with, through (bằng)
He goes to his parents’ house by car
Giới từ chỉ phương thức
With (bằng), without (không có)
He makes the dish with his love
Giới từ chỉ sự tương quan
According to (theo như), instead of (thay vì), in spite of (mặc dù)
In spite of the heavy rain, he still go to school
