Vào thời gian đầu, mình thường xuyên nhầm lẫn về cách dùng At present dù nó là một cụm từ quen thuộc trong tiếng Anh. Vậy nên bài viết này mình sẽ giúp các bạn hiểu rõ At present là thì gì, cách sử dụng chuẩn trong từng ngữ cảnh. Có kèm ví dụ và bài tập thực hành dễ áp dụng luôn nha.

At present là gì?

At present là trạng từ mang nghĩa “hiện tại”, “lúc này”. Được dùng để chỉ thời điểm hiện tại mà hành động đang diễn ra.

E.g.:

At present, I am working on a new project. (Hiện tại tôi đang thực hiện một dự án.)

Unfortunately, we can not see a solution to this problem at present. (Thật không may là chúng tôi chưa tìm được giải pháp nào lúc này.)

At present là thì gì?

At present thường được kết hợp cùng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (Present continuous) và thì hiện tại đơn (Present simple).

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (Present continuous)

At present chủ yếu dùng với thì hiện tại tiếp diễn. Vì At present là trạng từ chỉ thời điểm hiện tại nên thường được dùng để chỉ ra rằng hành động đang được thực hiện, diễn ra ở hiện tại.

E.g.:

I am studying English at present. (Hiện tại tôi đang học tiếng Anh.)

She is working at a company at present. (Hiện tại cô ấy đang làm việc tại công ty.)

At present, I am working as a teacher. (Hiện tại, tôi đang làm giáo viên.)

Thì hiện tại đơn (Present simple)

At present còn được dùng với thì hiện tại đơn khi nói về sự thật hoặc tình trạng hiện tại.

E.g.:

At present, many people use smartphones. (Hiện nay nhiều người dùng điện thoại thông minh.)

At present, I am living in Hanoi. (Hiện tại tôi đang sống ở Hà Nội.)

Things are going well at present. (Hiện giờ mọi thứ đang diễn ra tốt đẹp.)

Tổng kết

Tóm lại, At present là cụm thường đi với thì hiện tại tiếp diễn để diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra tại thời điểm hiện tại. Ngoài ra, nó cũng có thể dùng với hiện tại đơn trong một số ngữ cảnh.

Theo mình, nếu muốn nâng cao band điểm trong bài thi IELTS Writing, các bạn nên ưu tiên dùng “At present” thay cho “now” để bài viết của mình tăng thêm tính học thuật và sự tự nhiên nhé.
